MMP Programs Mindful Self-Compassion

Mindful Self-Compassion About the Course

Mindful Self-Compassion™ is an empirically supported 8-week program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. It combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional wellbeing.

MSC is an opportunity to explore how we typically respond when difficulties arise in our lives and to learn tools for becoming a warm, supportive companion to ourselves and others.

MSC is primarily a compassion training program rather than mindfulness training like MBSR, although mindfulness is the foundation of self-compassion.  MSC is also not psychotherapy – the emphasis of MSC is on building emotional resources rather than addressing old wounds.  Positive change occurs naturally as we develop the capacity to be with ourselves in a kinder, more compassionate way.

I have been in pursuit of a mindful self-compassionate practice for some time and felt I was ready for some practical approaches on how to integrate the practice into my daily life. Through our thoughtfully engaging mentor/teacher, this course provided a safe environment for deep self exploration utilizing meditation and other modalities to truly recognize and experience self compassion while providing accessible ways to tap into this feeling during heightened stressful times throughout our daily lives. This practice truly is life changing and I recommend the course to everyone looking to move on past guilt, shame, regret or any other feelings hindering a greater appreciation of self.

“I took the mindful self compassion class and learned about self compassion for the fist time. I was not aware of the challenges in finding a space of self awareness and self compassion. Self compassion is not a given and it is, in fact, a skill that ought the acquired under the direction of a skillful teacher (in my case Sue and Suzanne). I am in full support of this class reaching as many humans as possible, specially those of a tender age. Self compassion showed me there’s was another way to exist and that it is possible to aim for a balance peaceful existence, to “walk in beauty” as they Navajos would say. I am glad I became aware of the “discipline” of self compassion. Infinitely grateful to Sue Daniels with Suzanne Colón for having the love to share with all of us. “

“I participated in the Mindful Self-Compassion class this last winter, and it was like sliding into a hot tub each time, softening me physically, emotionally and adding ease into every new interaction, every decision, every choice. I teach resilience and leadership development at MSU and I just finished recommending this course to all of my advanced students as a way to continue expanding in resilience and vibrancy. It is a process that shows us where we have hidden blocks, led by guides that will both take you beyond where you’ve been, and will bring you home again safe.”

“I took the marvelous Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) training with Dr. Sue Daniels in the Fall of 2019. This course is transformative. My heart opened further through the MSC practices taught in this course – I now use them regularly. (I have long applied practices from the Internal Family Systems model and find the two models highly complimentary). With completion of the course, I have additional and powerful tools to calm and soothe my nervous system. MSC is an extremely valuable training. Sue is a superb and down to earth teacher who is passionate about the subject. She teaches with humor and provides a wonderfully supportive and nurturing environment. I found it very beneficial to learn within a group setting over 8 weeks to absorb what we were practicing. This course provides essential information for one’s overall sense of well being and navigation of life. I highly and enthusiastically recommend the MSC course to everyone. Immense heartfelt gratitude to Suzanne Colon and Sue Daniels for bringing Mindful Self Compassion to Bozeman.”
